Two web sites provide parents an opportunity to save and stash away money for their child's college education. Both offer a program similar to mileage building accounts with airlines. Participating merchants will contribute pennies on each dollar spent on goods or services.  The key is not to overspend, or overpay to receive the college cost benefits. Also, watch out for large costs to join. 

These programs are beneficial to those that already shop at participating merchants, or for those willing to shop at new retailers.  Don't be afraid of being left high and dry if these programs go bust. The money accumulated from purchases is put into college savings plans quarterly.
